Waste composition analyses carried out regularly by Agder Renovasjon show that more than half of the waste thrown into the residual containers at our reception sites is not residual waste.
The same applies to the contents of the residual waste bin at customers’ homes — less than half is actual residual waste.

Here is a short video showing what the residual waste bin contains in terms of recyclable materials.

We end up having to pay for incineration of waste that we could instead have sold for recycling. It becomes a lose-lose situation.

We also find incorrectly sorted waste in the other containers.

We understand that it can be difficult and sometimes confusing to know where different types of waste should be disposed of.

If you are unsure where to throw something at home, in which bin, we recommend Sortere.no or the Sortere app on your phone. There you will find answers on how the waste should be sorted.
If you are uncertain when visiting one of our reception sites, contact one of our staff members, and they will help you sort correctly.

Some items, for example, should go in the residual bin at home but in the metal or plastic container at the waste facility.

Here is a list of the most common sorting mistakes at the waste facility.

  • Rattan garden furniture: Sort as metal if the frame is metal. These should go in the metal container.
  • Shower walls with glass in aluminum frames: Can be thrown in the metal container. The glass will be crushed, leaving aluminum for recycling.
  • Laminate flooring: Goes in residual waste.
  • Parquet flooring: Is wood and should go in the wood container.
  • Styrofoam (EPS): Often comes with new furniture, bikes, or TVs. Throw in the residual waste container.
  • Roofing felt/asphalt roofing: Sort as residual waste.
  • Bicycles: Throw in metal if they cannot be reused in the reuse shop. E-bikes must be delivered as electrical waste, not in the metal container.
  • Cardboard boxes with residual waste inside: Empty the box into the residual container, then flatten and throw the box in the cardboard container.
  • Tarpaulins: Many think these go in plastic, but they contain vinyl threads and cannot be recycled as plastic. Throw in residual waste.
  • Strollers: Contain a lot of metal. Throw in the metal container, not residual.
  • Glass bottles and canned goods: We also find pots, glass panes, windows, and picture frames. These go in the small container marked STONE, GLASS AND CERAMICS.
  • Gas grills: Go in metal.
  • Frying pans, pots, and cutlery: Throw in the metal container at the waste facility. At home, these go in the residual bin.
  • Fire extinguishers, gas cylinders, and spray cans: Deliver as hazardous waste, not in residual waste.
