Preparing the septic system
The system must be prepared for emptying, and the lid must be visible.
Please mark the location with a stick or similar.
If the tank is difficult to locate, contact us as soon as possible.
The access road must be cleared of overhanging branches.
The sludge truck requires approximately 3 meters width and 4 meters height to avoid damage.
Dogs must not roam freely.
The tank must be secured against floating during and after emptying.

If we do not hear from you and the system or access road is not prepared when the collector arrives, an additional fee will apply.
If emptying must be rescheduled outside the planned weeks (unless due to snow or ice), an extra fee will also apply.
Ongoing emptying
Spring 2025: Septic systems in Moland and Old Arendal are emptied (annual or biennial schedule).
Froland and Hisøy areas are emptied annually.
Autumn 2025: Septic systems in Grimstad are emptied (annual or biennial schedule).
Øyestad and Tromøy areas are emptied annually.
Notification of emptying
System owners are notified digitally.
If not possible, a notification is sent by post.

Septic regulations
The septic regulations describe the rights and responsibilities of subscribers and set guidelines for septic fees.

Scheduled emptying
Agder Renovasjon IKS is responsible for septic tank emptying in Arendal, Froland, and Grimstad municipalities.
Emptying is carried out by Norva24 Sørmiljø AS.
Most systems are emptied on a fixed schedule, either annually or every other year.
Municipalities invoice subscribers for the service.
Emptying schedule by area:
- Even-numbered years (e.g. 2016, 2018):
- 1st half: Froland and Hisøy
- 2nd half: Øyestad and Tromøy
- Odd-numbered years (e.g. 2017, 2019):
- 1st half: Moland and Old Arendal
- 2nd half: Grimstad
On-demand emptying
Some systems are not registered for scheduled emptying and must be emptied on request.
Customers must call Agder Renovasjon IKS to order.

Additional services
Services such as pipe flushing, mini treatment plant flushing, pump well emptying, outdoor toilet emptying, pipe inspection, leak detection, and pipe renewal are additional services.
These must be ordered directly from the service provider and are invoiced separately.
These are considered operational costs, and the property owner is responsible for maintenance in accordance with §24 of the Pollution Control Act:
“For private sewage systems, the owner of the property for which the system was originally installed is responsible for operation and maintenance.”
